PUTNAM COUNTY ANTIQUES FAIR DEBUT SURPRISES ALL
Patterson, NY…It was a gamble for the dealers and for Cord Shows but it proved to be worth it. A fine facility in a pristine, untapped country setting just 1/4 mile off busy Route 22 had all the right ingredients for Vivien Cord and Ed McClure. Nobody knew what to expect and all were delighted when 500 people showed up for this one day show at the Patterson Recreation Center on Sunday, September 21st. Customers were asked where they had traveled from and it quickly became apparent that this show in Putnam County drew heavily from the surrounding communities thereby enlarging Cord Shows customer base. As always, some dealers did great and others did not. It was reported that Ann Hall and Mark Brady sold well from their collection of fine antique prints, Lesley Lorant sold a nice early dresser, Marie Rogat sold a fine Victorian painted tilt top tea table and Efram Berger sold a collection of early folk art horse drawn carriages. Connie and Steve Brown sold most of their furniture; paintings were sold by the Darvicks and by Grazyna Strzelecki; Barbara and Wynn Lambert, selling jewelry and tabletop accessories; Larry and Marie Butchen selling early iron tools also reported having a very successful day.
The farmers market proved to be a great bonus as customers were able to purchase just picked corn, tomatoes and fruit and to chose from a large assortment of colorful mums and asters. Kessman Farms provided all of this and creatively decorated the show entrance immediately establishing a country atmosphere.
Cord Shows has a good foundation to build on. The show sold out but for next September 20th the hope is that enough dealers respond so that Vivien and Ed can be more selective and take fewer dealers in jewelry. They expect that the customers who attended will be back because this event was certainly enough to whet their appetite.
